Correct relative pronoun and preposition

An author of two publications and a journalist, but not a free-lance writer, wrote afor me below. I don't believe it is grammatical, but given that his writing ability trumps mine, I thought it best I do a wee sanity check Emotion: smile

He is discussing the relationship between a free-lance writer and a publishing company.

a. I'm not a free-lance writer for the paper, in which the paper might give a writer a set amount of money for a particular story.

I have used different relative pronouns below as variations, the first of which I don't believe is correct, but the second of which may be the best of the three:

b. 'Im not a free-lance writer for the paper, as which the paper might give a writer a set amount of money for a particular story.

c. I'm not a free-lance writer for the paper, where the paper might give a writer a set amount of money for a particular story.

Which of these, if any, are grammatical?

If one or more are incorrect, why is this so?

Thanks

) paper, in which case it might give me a set amount of money for a particular story. But yes, 'where' is generally a decent choice in that kind of situation, and would be shorter than 'in which case'.

It seems to me that it has an admixture of other problems...and I don't think the original especially well-written, even if he is making more money than I am at it:

I'm not a freelance writer for a/the (Is he speaking of a specific one?) paper, in which case it might give me a set amount of money for a particular story.

But yes, 'where' is gener

Hi,

I think your version alters the meaning.

He is saying that if he were a freelance writer, the paper (no, he is talking of the news press in general) would give him a set amount of money for a particular story.

I think yours says he might get a set amount of money as a result of not being a freelance writer.

Ah yes, I see what you mean. Go with 'where', then. Otherwise, I think it has to have a major recasting.
