I have made up the four similar examples below.
(1a) I was tricked on a few occasions by the sales clerks when shopping at ABC.
(1b) I was tricked on a few occasions by the sales clerks when I was shopping at ABC.
(1c) I have been tricked on a few occasions by the sales clerks when shopping at ABC.
(1d) I have been tricked on a few occasions by the sales clerks when I have been shopping at ABC.
My non-native English speaking friends think both (1a) and (1c) are correct. They are not sure if my other two sentences (1b) and (1d) are correct. Please give me your opinion. Thank you very much for all your time and help.
