Correct proposition

Hi,

Mrs Lewis then stood up and said a few words --- to the visitors.

* to welcome
* of welcome
* for welcoming

I think 'to welcome' is OK. but what about others? What makes them incorrect? I need an explanation.

Use 'of welcome'. The others are not suitable.
