Correct preposition?

I told my mother about my problem. Then I felt as if a weight had been lifted from/off my shoulders.

In the second sentence, which is correct, from or off? Thanks in advance.

I use from , which is American English, but off, which is British English, is probably more commonly used in both dialects. I use off in the idiom "a weight off my mind". com/be+a+weight+off+your+shoulders
