correct phrase/word
In my 7 year olds reading book a new para sentence following a father saying he may be late home read as:
And indeed he was, for at the sale a cattle-lorry backed into his Range Rover and caused, so the garageman that towed him in estimated, £2,000 worth of damage.
He read this a few times and did not understand, I read it and felt something was missing as I could not see why the word caused was used. The school say it is correct.

The father was indeed late home. This was because a cattle-lorry backed into his Range Rover and caused some damage.. The Range Rover was then towed in (to somewhere unspecified). The person who towed in the Range Rover estimated that the damage would cost £2,000 to repair.

Thank you for your help. I note that you added "some damage" to the sentence, this is why it seemed strange reading the original, as it did not say what it caused, (fire) (car being pushed into a lake) (cow falling on the car....... ha ha)
It just did not seem to flow, oh, is garageman two words in correct English UK (garage man). Thank you again
