Correct or not no. 86: event

Dear All,

This is a slightly different question because I'm sure this sentence is incorrect but I don't know why it's incorrect. I mean, what's the rule behind it?

The Boston Massacre was an even between English soldiers and the colonists in 1990.

Thanks

The error is in the part "was an even". Haven't seen "even" being used as a noun before.
