Here's a short conversation and a question regarding the expression give it a shot used in it.

A: So where are you from?
B: I think you could give it a shot and (have a) guess.

Is give it a shot used correctly here?

One British man had problems with understanding this one. An American said it was fine.

I need your judgement.
