correct my sentence

Hey I'm writing an english paper, and I'm trying to make a conceptual topic sentence for my introduction paragraph, and I wanted to know if I was missing a punctuation in my sentence, if so which, and an explanation of why would be fantastic!

The Culture of Fear, by Barry Glassner, is a book that explains how a legion of organizations coerce and take advantage of the fears that America’s culture has adapted to over the years as a stingy way to increase their profits.

Hi. Welcome to the forums. Your sentence needs no additional punctuation, but I think I should mention two problems I see.

  • It says that they coerce fears, because "coerce" is transitive, but you can't coerce a fear.
  • Also, I think you should make sure "stingy" is the word you want there.

Rema Alzera conceptual topic sentence
Here the style is a little different, but I would go with something like this.

By taking advantage of Americans' anxieties, a legion of organizations has found a cost-effective way to increase profits. So explains Barry Glassner in The Culture of Fear.
