Correct meaning

I am not sure about the location of a velly.
What textbook translates and what I did is different.
Books says, the group jumped over the opposite side of a valley. In the vally, some trees were burning.
Meanwhile, what I think is that group jumped over to the valley and on the opposite side of valley, trees are burning.
