Hi Clive, I agree with you that grammatically both sentences are not incorrect. Of course I regard you as the master of Eng. Though, I like to share with you my perspectives. The way I perceived the pictures is that the verb “train” when used in a different context means different degree of expertise.

So if one is trained to look at failure, (by the way, I thought it’s awkwardly worded),

and based on the tense, which is more agreeable to the context? I'm not sure what context you mean. They have valid but different meanings. They all sound OK to me.

I thought # 2 and # 4 offer the most expertise. Reason is, to me, [has been trained] suggested a longer inplied time of experience than [is trained]. Again, may be my interpretation. Anyhow, appreciate you reply!
