Correct grammar and/or meaning?

This sentence is bothering me because I feel like there is something wrong with it but I cannot pinpoint the issue:

It seems like everyone’s leaving earlier than I can.

Maybe it has to do with a different verb being used after “than” than was used before “than”?

Not just "maybe". "Certainly".

You need "am", not "can".

I'd write

It seems everyone’s leaving earlier than I am.
