Which sentence is correct?

We will examine a person with a good self esteem, and the other with a bad self esteem.

or

We will examine a person with good self esteem, and the other with bad self esteem.

The question is there an a in front of self esteem, or there is no a? can it be either depending on the stylistic writing of the writer.
