Correct appositive?

Hi. Please tell me if the underlined part, which I think is an appositive, is correct or not. Let's say the letters "XXX" denote a place he worked at. Also which article should there be before the word "organization," "an" or "the"?
Thank you for your help in advance.

He worked at XXX, an (the?) organization found in 19XX.
