Correct and rectify

Hello.

Please somebody tell me the exact difference between "correct " and "rectify".

For example, I want to know the differece between "correct a mistake" and "rectify a mistake".

Maybe "rectify" is more formal, I guess ...?

Thank you in advance

There are no 'exact differences'-- and this is true of most synonyms. I agree that 'rectify' is more formal, in that fewer of us say it than write it. 'Rectify' is often used of conduct, inequities, deficiencies and oversights (that is, human weaknesses and errors).
