Your sentence is correct. The only gripe I have with it is "is gone in the stream", which doesn't sound completely natural to me (or at least doesn't strike me as being common). I think I'd use either lost or disappears instead.

You need a comma after "car". Other than that, it is fine. You need a comma when you join two independent clauses with a coordinating conjunction.
