Uh, you have different questions in two different posts on this thread, so I'll have to take them one at a time, Hanuman.

(1) and (3) are certainly correct. (1) indicates the discovered condition of the gate, while (3) indicates the action previous to arrival. (2) is also correct if the gate has a mechanism to close itself; this would then also indicate the action previous to arrival.
