Copy materials on/from

Hello,

can you please advise which preposition is correct in this sentence?

I wasn't able to copy the material from/on the overhead projector.

My first choice was "on", but then I thought that it seems as if someone has written things on the device (overhead projectotr, that is).

But maybe my thinking is wrong?

Thank you
