I am trying to expressi the following ideas but not sure if they sound natural.

( teacher to students)

When you record a vocabulary in your vocabulary journal, don't copy the defition from the dictionary word for word. That is, you have to write your owrn definition.

Also, when you write example sentences in your vocabulary journal, don't copy the example sentneces you find in your dictionary. You have to write an example sentences in your own words.
