Coped with/dealt with/handled

How have you coped with/dealt with/handled the divorced?

Are all of these natural in the context?

Are they differences or do they mean the same thing?

Top answer

'deal with' and 'handle' are about the same. They usually involve taking action. 'cope with' is a little different.

  • 'deal with' and 'handle' are about the same.
  • They usually involve taking action.
  • 'cope with' is a little different.
  • In the given case I'm guessing you'd be asking about coping (coming to terms mentally) with the stress or with the demands of the divorce, not actually taking action.
  • I would use the continuous tense.

I would use the continuous tense.

Also, it's 'the divorce', not 'the divorced'.
