Coordinating Conjunctions "so"

Does anyone have strong opinions about the use of a comma when joining together two independent clauses with so that?

EX:
I went to the store so that I could buy some cheese.

versus

I went to the store, so that I could buy some cheese.

Thanks!

No comma ever? Even if it is a more complex sentence like, "If I get off of work early, I am going to go to the supermarket on Greenbriar or the Farmer's Market, so that I can pick up some cheese and fresh fruit for my dinner party tonight." Or, "When I get to the grocery store, I am going to buy the best looking fruit for my dinner party, so that I can impress my guests."

No comma ever in standard prose (except when it is better to put it in). In your diary or your newspaper column, you can do what you like.
