Coordinate conjuction

Hello,

There are only seven coordinate conjunction known as "FANBOYS"

F-for
A-and
N-nor
B-but
O-or
Y-yet
S-so

These are used in a compound sentence.

The teacher punished the boy for his disobedience. (I have to transform it in a compound sentence)
The below is the converted form---
a) The boy was disobedient and so the teacher punished him . (compound sentence)

My question is-
Why "and so" both have been used?

Could any one her explain it?
Thanks

When I was at school more than half a century ago, 'so' was not considered to be a coordinating conjunction. We were taught that only 'and so' was acceptable. Some people still use 'and so' in preference to 'so'.
