Cool down = Collect myself?

- When I'm upset, I don't want to be around friends though. If the situation is really bad then I need time to cool down and collect myself and my thoughts.

- "cool down", "collect myself" and "calm down" are the same meaning in this situation, right? By the way, what does "collect my thoughts" mean here?

Thanks very much to Teachers,
