I see nothing wrong with that sentence. '... have got to know' is fine in BrE, as is ... 'have come to know. '... have gotten to know' is not correct for us.

I also doubt whether that sentence is grammatically correct. Here is another sentence I have come across and I am not sure if it is correct-- ''Lion said, 'had humans ever been confined in cages like us; they would have realized how such confinement could strain one’s mind.''

The grammar is fine, but the punctuation is wrong, though if the text is old, it may be an older style.

Lion said, 'Had humans ever been confined in cages like us, they would have realized how such confinement could strain one’s mind.'

Had X happened = If X had happened.
