Conveyed as

Is convey the correct word?

In cartoons, the smell of skunks is conveyed as/by green lines from their tails. Thanks

I imagine 'conveyed as' is used on a rare occasion, but 'conveyed by' is by far the more usual way to say it. 'conveyed' is OK. Also 'portrayed' or 'depicted'.
