Converting
The beauty of the diamond crystal is due to immense pressure over millions of years on what started as plant debris. So that is what pressure can do, converting formless fragments into treasure.
About 'converting' in bold above, is it a reduced adverbial clause which modifies 'what pressure can do'? Or is it a nominal gerund, a restatement of 'what pressure can do'?
