Conversational English

I thought you said you'd never go out on an actual date because you found it too cliche. But here we are, just the two of us, in a nice restaurant. So maybe you're not that scared of it?

Is this perfectly good conversational English?

Is the use of scared OK in this context? (she takes it that he's never been out on an actual date before because he's been too nervous about it.) Or do you maybe prefer a lighter word?
