Conversation

It is an exercise question. It is strange to me and I cannot decide myself.

When she walked into the party, conversation stopped and everyone in the crowded room stared at her.

Is it wrong without 'the' before conversation? Thank you.

Hi,

No, it's fine without an article. It just makes the meaning more general. It's a non-count kind of use.
