I am writing about representation, from what I gather, Conventions and Connotations are both 'what something is associated with'. I seem to get the idea that conventions are more of a strict series of rules to define a genre or category. For example, a convention of the horror genre may be dull lighting. A connotation, on the other hand could be more board such as black representing evil and whit
