As for "control" drainage valves" I'm not sure if control means that the system sends orders to these valces or doing something to it? or inspecting these valves?
Opti’s CMAC (continuous monitoring and adaptive control) drainage system monitors weather forecasts and controls drainage valves to minimize flooding and environmentally hazardous run-off.
It sounds to me like the valves have motors on them to adjust how much liquid they allow through, and there is a central computer that turns the motors.

My background is Industrial Engineering. It depends on the application and what is being monitored, i.e. reservoir, sewage treatment plant, liquid tank etc. CMAC or systems similiar utilize different type of sensors at various locations of the pipe system to monitor the flow and level of the liquid flow. These sensors ( could be laser LED, level limit, etc) provide information to the centra
