contradistinction?

Hi!
Can someone please help me understand this sentence by providing me the context in which we can say this sentence?
I use the ?term "?child" in contradistinction to "?parent" - it does not ?necessarily refer to a ?juvenile.
What could be the scenario where one would say this?
Thanks!
