Contract

My friend was telling me about a contract he has with his customer. I say:

Can you renege the contract? Or should it be:

Could you renege the contract?

Thanks!

Mister MicawberCan/could you renege on the contract?
Please tell me what's the distinction between using can/could in this sentence? I know it's slight, but I just havent figured it out yet.

Thank you for your patience.

Sorry, but I have no more patience on this one. Review the several dozen posts you have already made on this same topic.

It's different from the previous posts, because this time I'm using it in a question form, so it's more confusing to me.

If I use could it sounds like I'm asking a question and making a suggestion at the same time. B
