continue vs start again

We heard the jingle of keys outside our door and then silence. [We continued to tickle each other/We started to tickle each other again].

Is there any difference between the two? Which one is better?

With "continued to tickle," unless you specifically state that the action had stopped, the reader would assume that it hadn't.
