Contagious or Communicable?

Is there any difference in meaning between CONTAGIOUS and COMMUNICABLE, when said of diseases?

Communicable as we are referring to diseases can be caught or brought about by air while contagious is through bacteria from using the same silverwares, plates, glasses or cups.
