The line chart below illustrates energy consumption by fuel type in the US from 1980 to 2018, with projected use until 2030.
Overall, the US had depended most on petrol and oil, and least on nuclear, solar/wind and hydropower, as its source of energy, and this was expected to continue into the future.
According to the chart, petrol and oil had remained the highest sources of energy, increasing 5 quadrillion units in 35 years, from 1980 to2015. They are predicted to continue to rise to approximately 50 quadrillion until 2030. Energy coal and natural gas have been similar, they increased during the period shown. While consumption of coal was just 15 quadrillion in 1980 and might grow to more than two times in 2030, energy natural gas was raised slightly and could fluctuate around 25 quadrillion in the future.
Nuclear, solar/wind and hydropower had 5 quadrillion units of energy in 1980. Whereas nuclear and solar expanded minimally within the past and are predicted to peak at 7 quadrillion in the future, consumption of hydropower is anticipated to decline after 2010, around 4 quadrillion units of energy.
