Construct

Hi,

"I can't find the book much less borrow it".
"The old man smokes more cigarettes faster than his wife does in a day".

Are there better and natural constructs for the sentences above?

Thank you

Fine, except I would add commas as shown below..

"I can't find the book, much less borrow it".
"The old man smokes more cigarettes, faster, than his wife does in a day".

Just guessing, but 'lend it to you' sounds more logical, or at least expected, than 'borrow it'.

I can't find the book, much less lend it to you.

I'd reorganize this one.

I was thinking of it as a library search, CJ.
CalifJimThere is something incongruent about comparing both number of cigarettes per day and speed of smoking them in one sentence.
Ah, yes—that's the problem.
