Constellation

Hello,

"Cooper examines the domestic and international constellations that gave rise to the peace movements"

When I see the word 'constellation' used it's usually in the format of 'a constellation of,' as in "a constellation of Hollywood stars." Here the word means no more than 'group.'

But occasionally I also see it used in the way as in the example at the top of this post. Here it seems that 'constellation' means more than 'group,' but more specifically 'group of conditions or factors.' How valid is this usage?

Thank you.
