Constantly

Hello, I would like to ask you whether we always have to use the past progressive with words like constantly, forever etc.

e.g. Before they moved, they were constantly improving their house. Can we also say Before they moved, they constantly improved their house?

Thank you for the answer

Anonymous Can we also say Before they moved, they constantly improved their house? You can, but the version with the continuous is better because "constantly" suggests continuous activity. CJ
