Constant text changes

Is tense changing allowed throughout the text of a passage? Going from past to present and back again is very confusing. The problem I am having is with the passage below.

"I have left school now. I'm going (1) to university in September. My best friends are (2) David and Colin. In school, we often went on outings together. The most interesting outing we went on was to a geopark.

The kindest teacher at my school was my Maths teacher. My funniest memory is (3) when we were eating lunch.

Our (4) most anxious time was when we (5) waited to find out which university we are (6) going to next year. Luckily, David, Colin and I will be going to the same university.

My changes are as follows:
At (1): 'will be going to' should be used instead of 'going to'
At (2): 'were' should be used instead of 'are'
At (3): 'was' should be used instead of 'is'
At (4): 'My' should be used instead of 'Our'
At (5): 'I' should be used instead of 'we'
At (6): 'I will be' should be used instead of 'are'

All help on this matter is most sincerely welcome and warmly appreciated.

Thank you in advance!

At (1) : 'will be going to' should be used instead of 'going to' -- Both are OK and they mean the same. "I'm going to" is slightly more informal. At (2) : 'were' should be used instead of 'are' -- If they are still your best friends then use "are".
