consistent/consistently

Hello,
"His performance on the pitch was far from consistent." - Doesn't that mean that he didn't do what he usually does? If a player needs to be more consistent, s/he as to do what s/he usually does without changing their performance.
What do you think of: "The team fights were consistently theirs"? Meaning that they won all of them. I sounds a little odd to me. It gives me the idea that they initiated all of the fights. I'd probably say: "The other team won all of the team fights."

One last question. "The government has been consistent in taking the side of large companies against those campaigning for public health and safety." - What does it suggest to you? I think the government has been supporting them for a while, and they are not going to change their attitude towards the campaigners. Therefore they are consistently taking the side of the companies/factories.

I realize it's a long post and the questions are not as good as they should be, so I apologize.
