Connotation why cant i use "bland" instead of vivid?

You need a few more words in there so we know what you mean, but you can probably use "bland" if it sounds natural once it's complete.

Well, sea and sky have more than one colour, so I would use the plural. Also, the definite article since it is a specific set of colours.

I could see the vivid colours of sea and sky.

"Bland" is most commonly used for the sense of taste. The opposite is spicy.
Hospitals serve bland food.

Also, bland writing is uninspiring.

I suppose you could use it if the colours looked muted, indistinct, faded or washed-out. It's not the common collocation.
