Connectors before an adverbial clause

Hello guys

I know that when we want to join two independent clauses to each other we have to use comma and a connector, e.g. FANBOYS. And also after an adverbial clause we have to use comma. I want to connect two independent cluse, and the second sentence starts with a adverbial clause. What should I do?

e.g.:

.... Therefore, by accepting the rule, he got into a bad situation.

OR

.... Therefore by accepting the rule, he got into a bad situation.

OR

.... Therefore, by accepting the rule he got into a bad situation.

Which one of the above sentences is true for a formal writing?

Consider e is an edge of a polygon. By fixing e on the second line, we would obtain n configurations. Therefore, by taking all the possible places for e into account, there are at least n^2 acceptable configurations.
