Connectives and full stops

We have had a disscussion at work as to the correct use of the full stop. Is it grammatically correct to use the connective 'and' immediately after a full stop?

Hi, I teach my students not to do that. But I tell them that good writers of literature often see that as just a guideline, and will on rare occasions start with 'And' for the sake of style or impact on the reader. Best wishes, Clive
