Conjunctions

I wanted to buy some fruit but didn't have any money.

Must I insert a comma after fruit because of the conjunction but ?

I don't want to add the comma or repeat the word I, as in the sentence below.

I wanted to buy some fruit, but I didn’t have any money.

Is it acceptable to add the comma, but leave out the word I, as show below?

I wanted to buy some fruit, but didn’t have any money.

I don't think you need a comma here. You don't need to routinely put a comma before "but". My pragmatic approach is to use one if I feel it makes the sentence easier to parse.
