0Coordinating conjunctions (01i 00and, or, but02i 00) do not normally work well at the beginning of a sentence, and I discourage students from doing so until their writing skills are quite advanced. 02br 02br 00On the other hand, subordinating conjunctions (01i 00although, while, if, because, since02i 00, etc) often work well. Beginning the sentence with the subordinated ('less important', 'shared knowledge') clause causes the main ('more important', 'new information') clause to appear closer to the end of the sentence, which is the normal position for sentence stress.
