Conjunction usage in sentences

In colloquial/casual speech can conjunctions that follow verbs be omitted?

for instance:
can "He is trying to convey that he is from a family that has produced many football coaches" be recasted as "He is trying to convey he is from a family that has produced several football coaches"?.

Thanks!
