Conjunction 'and'

Hi, please help with this:

"Mary likes red cars. Mary likes blue cars."

Is it wrong to join it this way?
"Mary likes red cars and blue cars."

Or must it strictly be "Mary likes red and blue cars."

What is the reason for accepting or not accepting the sentence(s)?

Appreciate some help please. Thanks!
