congested/crowded

Hi,
I wonder if 'congested' can be replaced with 'crowded' in the following case.
"The freeway becomes congested around five o'clock in the afternoon." In addition, Can I say gets congested instead of becomes congested?

Thanks.

In your context, congested is a better choice. But crowded is accpetable and understood Hallway, freeway, roads, streets anything inferring to a passage, congested is more suitable. In other words, "congestion" has to do with mobility and movement.

Goodman,
Thank you for replying to my question. Can I say 'get congested' instead of 'become congested'?

Yes,

When the weather gets cold, my sinus gets congested.

The freeway often gets congested this time of the day.

If you follow the suggestion in my previous post, you will be able to determine which one to use.

If you are moving from point A to point B, it's congested.
If you are gathering, staying and meeting at once place, it's crowded
