Confusion regarding "S" plural

First the disclamer Emotion: smile: The sentence I'm using to clear my doubt is made up one and not mine. It's not meant to offend anybody.Emotion: wink

Sentence: " Neither media nor celebrity journos are worried about sectarian killings because the rioters aren't (X ) and the victims aren't (Y)."

P.S - X and Y can be replaced with any religious community say Buddhist, Jain etc but I've not selected any because I feel that wouldn't be appropriate.

My question/doubt: My doubt is regarding "s" plural. Should the words X and Y have "s" at their end if they were to be replaced by any specific religious community ?

Thanks

Either is possible. One word is a noun that indicates the individual ( My friends are all Buddhists ) and the other is an adjective that indicates their religion ( My friends are all Buddhist ). PS: See how easy it is to write inoffensive sample sentences?
