[confusion in using the definite article "the"]

I can't understand why "the" was used before damaging consequence in the first sentence but was not used in the second.

sentence 1:"The damaging consequences of unemployment affect all levels of society".

sentence 2: "the news report resulted in damaging consequences for the company".

Hope you guys to explain for me.
