Confusion in the right use of article

'I cannot play on a flute.'
'I cannot play the flute.'
Is there any mistake in these above sentences?

It's a question of common expressions.
If you put it more generically, "I could not play a single note on a/the flute!," it would be okay.
Even in this case, "the" would be more natural to a native speaker.
